Good Gifts
When we come to God, the ultimate gift-giver, we expect something good, something pleasant, something sweet.
Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.
─ James 1:17 NLT
Jesus said there is no one good but God (Mark 10:18). The fact that He is only good, is significant in believing that every good and perfect thing you receive in your life comes from Him. He gives good and perfect gifts.
Your Heavenly Father has more good in store for you.
Because of our fallen, human nature, we often look to someone else to provide what only God can give us or deceive ourselves by believing we can make things happen in our own abilities to fulfil a desire or meet an expectation. Instead, you can trust God to give you what is good – His very best.
When you discover a gift isn’t a good gift, be quick to recognize it’s not from God. You don’t have to accept it, but wait for God’s perfect gift instead.
Today’s One Thing
Think back and remember the good gifts God has given you. Perhaps He protected you and kept you safe, provided for you during a difficult financial season or brought the right relationships into your life to be a blessing to you in a way no one knew about. Give Him thanks and let your faith rise in expectation knowing He has more good for you.
