Gratitude’s Benefits

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, And You are exalted as head over all.

─ 1 Chronicles 29:11 NKJV

When we cultivate a heart full of gratitude toward God, it eradicates all kinds of adverse feelings. Thankfulness overcomes pride, jealousy, self-pity and anger every time. And it’s easy to grow gratitude when it comes from an understanding of who He is and all He’s done for us, and that it is motivated by His great love for us.

In 1 Chronicles 29:11, King David could not help but express his immense gratitude. The response from God’s people when he requested that they give toward the building of a house for God, caused David to rejoice and praise God. His heart burst with gratefulness, not because of the wealth they shared, but because their generous giving confirmed the people were attentive to God and to His house.

  • Gratitude helps us to see God’s goodness. It helps us to never forget what He has done for us, what He is doing for us, and what He will do for us. It is remembering His past, present and future faithfulness.
  • It keeps us focused on God and from that perspective the worries of the world fade away when we look to Him.
  • It is transformational. Our desire for relationship with Him helps us to choose to live in obedience to Him.

We always have something to be grateful to God for every day of our life.
