Grounded in Gratitude with Michael Cochren

Singer, songwriter and worship leader, Michael Cochren shared why perspective is so important. It matters where you sit and the perspective you have. Are you sitting in a posture of entitlement or a posture of gratitude?

“I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.”

– Psalm 9:1 ESV

Michael said it’s something the Lord had been talking to him about. “If you walk around feeling like you’re owed something from God, then everything you see is just not quite what it could be or should be.”

You can look at every piece of your life, and think, I should have a bigger house … a nicer car … a little better job. I wish my spouse was a little different or my kids were a little smarter, a little more athletic or whatever it is.

Moments of gratitude build your faith and keep you focused on your loving Father!

“But if you sit in the place of gratitude,” Michael shared, “you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh! I have a house or an apartment, and water comes out of the tap when I turn it on, and it’s clear and I can drink it – and a lot of people can’t.’”

Moments of gratitude build your faith and keep you focused on your loving Father! It’s important not to grieve for a gift you don’t have, but instead see that God has given you everything you truly need.

Throughout the Psalms you’ll find encouragement, like the verse above. When you begin to see His gifts as unearned blessings given because of His mercy and love, you become grounded in gratitude and it can completely change how you experience life.

Today’s One Thing

Look at your life today in very fine detail. What things do you find yourself wishing were better or different? Now, take each of those things and find a reason to be grateful for it. Give God thanks for His good in your life.
