Guard Your Time With God

Time is the great equalizer. We all have the same number of hours and minutes in a day. How you spend them says a lot about what matters to you.

“Show respect for the Sabbath Day—it belongs to me.”
─ Deuteronomy 5:12 CEV

From the very beginning, God set aside the seventh day as a day of rest, or quiet with Him. “Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it” (Genesis 2:3). It is one of the Ten Commandments. Throughout Scripture God frequently reminds us to keep that day holy – set apart for Him.

Put God on your calendar.

When we read God’s instructions to the Israelites in Exodus 16:23 and in other places, it can seem a bit harsh. They were not allowed to do any type of work – not even cook their food on that day. But God knows humanity struggles with distractions. He understood that the busyness of daily living could interfere with time with Him.

It’s true today too. If you don’t have time with the Lord set aside on your calendar, it’s easy to let the day go by without speaking a single word to Him or opening the Bible. Daily chores, interruptions in your day, work, family responsibilities and even recreation can crowd God out of your day.

Your Heavenly Father loves you. He wants to be your number one priority. He created you and knows you better than you know yourself.

Today’s One Thing
Look at how much time you’ve given to God on a daily and weekly basis. What do you consider your Sabbath? Ask God to help you know how to make Him your first priority. Schedule Him into your calendar for the next 30 days and then see what a difference it makes.
