Having Done All, Stand

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness.”

─ Ephesians 6:13-14

Katherine felt her dream slipping away. All her hard work over the past few months had come down to a single focus, at least for those who she felt held her career in their hands. She’d made a mistake, months ago, and had worked hard to overcome it on her own.

If only … if only she’d taken responsibility sooner. If only she’d shared what was going on in her personal life with her leadership, then maybe they would have been more lenient, more understanding. But now – now it could be too late.

She appeared before the human resources committee and pleaded her case. So many questions from them showed her she should have trusted them, shared with them. Their decision was clear. They were recommending she be fired. But there was still hope. She had one last appeal to the CEO of the company. It was an unusual circumstance. She had done everything she could do to plead her case. Now she hoped he would give her grace and a second chance.

We all make mistakes and need grace from others. In those moments, you can only trust God for the outcome to work for your good. When you’re tempted to think the worst, imagine instead that miraculous things are happening behind the scenes. God is working on your behalf. Remember, you are God’s child and you have a promise for all things to eventually work for your good.

Today’s One Thing

Close your eyes and think about all God has done for you. Now imagine all the things that He is doing on your behalf today. Make a list and then thank Him for those things.
