Integrity ‒ a Matter of the Heart

Anyone who can be trusted in little matters can also be trusted in important matters. But anyone who is dishonest in little matters will be dishonest in important matters. If you cannot be trusted with this wicked wealth, who will trust you with true wealth?

─ Luke 16:10-11 CEV

Integrity ‒ a Matter of the Heart

Gena pulled back the sod from the side of the house to find out why the brand new grass was dying. Disappointment sat like a rock in her throat. Once again, someone hadn’t done their job right, and the builder either didn’t check for quality assurance, or just didn’t care that the sod had been laid over rocks and sticks. She spent the rest of the morning pulling back the sod and removing the layers of rock with a shovel in hopes that the grass could still be saved.

During her walk through before signing the contract, the excitement in purchasing a new house suddenly turned sour when it became clear the builder lacked integrity. It was obvious he cut corners and left things undone. The laundry door was placed backwards leading into the laundry room, the garage door opener was never purchased, let alone installed … and the list went on.

Our verse today is a call to come up higher – to be one who could be trusted – not just in the big things in life but also in the small ones when you think no one else will notice. Anyone who can be trusted in little matters can also be trusted in important matters. But anyone who is dishonest in little matters will be dishonest in important matters. If you cannot be trusted with this wicked wealth, who will trust you with true wealth?

God desires us to have integrity in all we do. We should do what’s right, simply because it’s right. Instead of cutting corners to save a buck, we should go above and beyond to deliver good, quality work and remain true to our word. Our integrity, or lack of, is a reflection of who we are in Christ and a testimony of His truth at work in our lives.

Today’s One Thing

This week as you make commitments, carefully consider your ability to fulfill each one. And do everything you can to remain true to your word, even if it’s a very small promise.
