Jesus Withdrew Often

Jesus—who held the power to heal bodies, calm storms, and raise the dead—often chose to step away from it all to be with God. He wasn’t avoiding people or problems. He withdrew because He needed time alone with His Father. In the early morning hours, on lonely hillsides, and after long days of ministry, Jesus prioritized alone-time with God.

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.
– Mark 1:35 ESV

You have daily responsibilities, including family, work, relationships, and even ministry. During Jesus’ ministry, He showed us that quiet spaces aren’t wasted. They are places where your strength can be restored, clarity can be gained, and peace can be renewed.

Consider the moments in scripture when Jesus slipped away before the sun rose or after the crowds dispersed. He wasn’t just finding time; He was making time. Jesus intentionally prioritized time to pray, to listen, and to be filled. Even when the demands around Him grew louder, His first response was to remain anchored to His Father.

Your greatest strength comes from who you sit with in stillness.

You don’t need a mountaintop or distant retreat to experience quiet moments with God. They’re available in your car before you walk into work, in the peace of your home before the kids wake up, or during a walk around the block. When you choose to be with God, even briefly, you open your heart to the One who holds all things together.

Jesus withdrew often because He trusted the Father to restore what the world had depleted. You can do the same. And when you do, you’ll find that rest and time with God strengthens you for the tasks ahead.

Today’s One Thing
Seek the Lord and declare, “I choose to follow Jesus’ example by stepping away to meet with God, knowing His presence restores me.”
