Joy—a Fruit of the Spirit

Joy is more than a feeling; it’s a deep, enduring state of the heart. Joy reaches beyond a burst of happiness or the delight that comes with something you enjoy. Joy is anchored in something more substantial, prosperous, and lasting than immediate satisfaction. It’s found in God’s presence, His promises, and His faithfulness.

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

– Psalm 37:4 ESV

When joy anchors your heart, it influences how you see others, shifting your focus from yourself to a desire to uplift and encourage those around you. This anchor is genuine, steady, and motivated because the Holy Spirit produces something lasting and real within you.

Joy doesn’t require you to have everything figured out, and it’s not held hostage by life’s ups and downs. Instead, joy is a gift from the Holy Spirit with a solid foundation, not swayed by emotions.

Joy comes when you lean on God and trust in His goodness.

By delighting yourself in the Lord and aligning your desires with His, you will bear the fruits of the Spirit. Joy, as one of His fruits bubbles up from knowing you are consistently loved and cared for by God.

As you walk in step with the Spirit, know that the fruits of the Spirit aren’t seasonal; they don’t disappear when life gets tough. Instead, they stand firm, a reminder of God’s faithfulness and a witness to His transforming power in you.
