Let God Love Through You

Hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

─ Romans 5:5

Brandy dropped her backpack onto the floor next to her chair as she slid into the seat her friend Dawn had saved for her at the coffee bar. “You’re a lifesaver,” Brandy told her as she reached for her favorite coffee Dawn had purchased for her.

“No problem,” Dawn quipped. “What’s up? Your text sounded like you were upset.”

“I was!” Brandy hissed. “I still am. I truly love my job, but I have a co-worker that’s the most difficult person I’ve ever met. He’s angry, bitter, hurt, jealous and bent on seeing me fail. I got so angry today, I had to go to the bathroom to compose myself. I’ve prayed about it and I don’t like what God had to say.”

Dawn leaned in. “What did He say?”

“He’s been telling me to love this person. Dawn, I don’t think I can.”

Dawn tried not to smile. “God wouldn’t ask you to do it, if He hadn’t already given you the power to do it.”

“Ugh!” I knew you were going to say that,” Brandy replied.

“We are promised that God’s love is shed abroad in our hearts. His love for this person is already within you. You have to decide to let God use you to love him,” Dawn said softly. “Let’s agree in prayer that God will help you see this person with His heart and His love for them.”

Brandy reached across the table and took Dawn’s hand. “Pray with me now,” she said as she bowed her head.
