Let the Tears Fall Freely
You have seen me tossing and turning through the night. You have collected all my tears and preserved them in your bottle! You have recorded every one in your book.
─ Psalm 56:8 TLB
Charles Dickens penned the words, “Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of earth, overlying our hard hearts.”
The shortest verse in Scripture says, “Jesus wept.” No additional words to explain His actions are needed. You need no interpretation. Even in your deepest sorrow, God cares about you and knows how you feel.
Tears become a voice of the heart, expressed in a way God truly understands. The Psalmist expressed his feelings in today’s verse – God is so aware of how you feel that not a single tear you shed is lost, but God takes great care to collect them.
When you waver between faith and fear, comfort and hurt, and are sure that no one understands, know that God is aware of every problem, and sees every tear. He promises to perfect everything that concerns you (Psalm 138:8). You never have to be ashamed of your tears.
Today’s One Thing
Open your Bible to Psalm 56 and read it aloud. Then thank God for His comfort and care.
