Liberty to Pursue His Highest Potential

For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

─ Galatians 5:13 ESV

Liberty to Pursue His Highest Potential

The Apostle Paul asserts that he has freedom to do anything, but it calls for a life of strict discipline (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). Serving Christ offers freedom but requires discipline. Paul’s purpose in life was to glorify God and encourage others to experience Christ.

In our verse today, Paul differentiates between freedom to sin and freedom to serve. When we pursue our sinful nature, it enslaves us to Satan. We have not been given freedom to simply do as we please, to sin or to follow our own desires, but instead to do what is right and brings glory to God by serving others.

As Christ followers we have liberty given to us by God to reach our highest potential in Him. God gives us freedom from religious rules and eternal guilt, and we demonstrate our thanks to Him by not indulging in our own desires but reaching for the best God has for us.

Today’s One Thing

  1. Examine your heart today.
  2. Invite the Holy Spirit to shine the light of Truth into the deepest and darkest places of your soul.
  3. Give Him permission to help you identify things that may be selfish in nature and repent for pursuing those things.
  4. Embrace the liberty God has given you to pursue His highest potential for your life today.
