Lifting Up and Leaning In
We all experience moments when we feel weary—when the weight of responsibility, trials, and spiritual battles press down on us. Moses knew that feeling. As he stood on the hill, staff raised high, he carried the weight of Israel’s victory. But even the strongest leaders grow tired. His arms weakened, and the battle turned against Israel.
I will come down and talk with you there. I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and will put the same upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you may not bear it yourself alone.
—Numbers 11:17 NKJV
Then Aaron and Hur came alongside him. They didn’t give him a speech about perseverance or tell him to push through the exhaustion. They simply held him up. They positioned themselves beside him, steadying his arms so that victory could be won.
God places people in our lives to lift us up when we’re weary, just as He calls us to do the same for others.
Maybe today, you’re the one who needs an Aaron or Hur. You’ve been holding on for so long, trying to be strong for everyone else, but you’re tired. Let this be a reminder that God never intended for you to do life alone. Look around—who has He placed beside you? A friend who prays for you, a mentor who speaks wisdom, a loved one who listens? Lean on them.
Or maybe, you’re called to be an Aaron or Hur for someone else. Who in your life is feeling weary? A friend overwhelmed with responsibilities? A coworker struggling silently? A family member carrying unseen burdens?
Sometimes, lifting someone up isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about showing up, offering a listening ear, a word of encouragement, or even just a simple act of kindness.
Today’s One Thing
Reach out to someone today. If you need a little extra support, let someone know. Or perhaps you know someone who needs encouragement. Whether through a prayer, a text of encouragement, or a small act of service, be the one who lifts up a weary heart.
