Live Free from Drama

For lack of wood the fire goes out, And where there is no gossiper, quarreling quiets down. Like charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire, So is a contentious person to kindle strife.

─ Proverbs 26:20-21 NASB

Live Free from Drama

Family drama, work drama, personal and political drama … drama is used today to describe unnecessary, overly dramatic situations or chaos and upheaval that could have been avoided. You may not realize it, but drama usually doesn’t just suddenly appear in your life. Usually you invite it, create it or associate with those that bring it.

Our verse today compares drama to a fire, and an overly dramatic person to kindling. When you stop feeding drama – when you stop talking about it and giving the person creating it attention –it dies.

Drama can be entertaining, at first, but at some point, it can no longer be contained and burns out of control. God has called us to live in peace with one another. That means living a life free from drama and chaos.

Today’s One Thing

What is the source of drama in your life today? Ask God to show you in what ways you may have created it, invited it or chosen friends that bring it into your life. Ask the Lord to give you wisdom in choosing to live a drama free life.
