Live Love

Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”

─ Mark 12:29-31 NLT

A Peanuts cartoon shows Lucy standing with her arms folded, frowning. Charlie Brown pleads, “Lucy, you must be more loving. This world really needs love. You have to let yourself love to make this world a better place.”

Lucy then knocks Charlie Brown to the ground and screams at him, “Look, Blockhead, I love the world. It’s people I can’t stand.”

We may feel like Lucy from time to time, especially when we are around people who are unkind, rude and hard to love. But Charlie Brown is right – this world really needs love.

One day a religious teacher approached Jesus and asked Him which of all the commandments were the most important. Jesus’ answer appears in our verse for today. He said to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength,” and second, to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no commandment greater than these.

Today’s One Thing

God has placed special people in your life, such as your spouse, children, parents, co-workers, neighbors, those at school and those at church, to give you opportunities to live a life of love. Ask Him to show you a person or family to whom you can demonstrate His love in a special way today.
