Love Brings You Out of the Darkness

He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

─ 1 John 2:10-11 NKJV

Love Brings You Out of the Darkness

How many times have your first impressions proven false about someone? Maybe someone told you a story about the person that tainted your perspective of them, and you found out later you were only told one side of the story.

A false narrative, past hurts or what someone did to you, or didn’t do for you, can cause you to see people through a shadow of darkness. Maybe it’s easier to close your eyes and pretend not to see them. Instead of ignoring those you don’t want to see, or despising those who are different from you, you can love by faith.

John’s words from our verse today are very clear. Love brings light to your world. Hate casts a dark shadow on your life and causes you to walk in blindness to God’s truth, eventually causing you to fall.

Christian love is a choice. Just because someone irritates you, challenges you or even confronts you as an enemy would, you should love them anyway. With the love of Christ, you can demonstrate a genuine concern for their well being physically and spiritually.

When you don’t feel anything positive toward someone, you can still choose to love by faith. God will help you express your love. He wants others to experience His love through you.

Today’s One Thing

Think about a difficult person in your life. What could you do this week that would show them God’s love? Ask God to give you the opportunity to demonstrate His love to them this week in a significant way.
