Make Someone’s Day
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
─ Colossians 3:17 ESV
One thing that can help us find purpose in the work that we do, is to make other’s lives simple because of the work we do. Maybe you own a business where you’re doing repair work in a home, or you’ve got a retail job. Perhaps you’re a stay-at-home parent and you’re working with your children. How you operate your business and live your life can bring joy through Christ and influence those around you in a positive way.
We are encouraged in scripture to please Christ (Ephesians 5:10). Whatever we do – every single thing – should be done in the name of the Lord, or so that it honors Him (1 Colossians 3:17). At the end of the day, if you can say, “I made someone’s life better today,” that’s worthwhile.
A helpful attitude, speaking an encouraging word or going above and beyond the task at hand, can impact and brighten someone’s day.
You may never know where your actions could take someone. Unknown to you, perhaps someone came to Christ today because of what you’ve done or said by the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
Today’s One Thing
Ask yourself, “Is someone’s life getting stronger as a result of what I’ve done over the past few days?” Think about how you can make a difference for someone in the next few days. Also ask the Lord to give you opportunities to please Him in your workday this week.
