Never Lost to God’s Spirit

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.

─ Psalm 139:7-10 ESV

Have you ever tried to escape God’s presence? Sometimes doubt, disappointment or deception cause us to try to avoid God.

  • Adam hid from God (Genesis 3:9-10).
  • Jonah ran from God (Jonah 1:3).
  • When Hagar became pregnant by Abraham, which was Sarah’s idea, this created a big fight between her and Sarah. So, Hagar ran away. The Bible says she ended up in the wilderness by a spring. Then an angel of God told her, “Return to your mistress and submit to her” (Genesis 16:9).

David declared in our verse today, there is no place to hide from God. “Where shall I go from your Spirit?” God is always present, even when we don’t want to acknowledge Him. You can never be lost to His Spirit. No matter what you do or where you go, you can never be far from His comforting presence. He knows everything about you and accepts and loves you unconditionally.

Hebrews 4:13 says, “And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”

Today’s One Thing

If you feel distant from God today, acknowledge how you’re feeling to Him and invite Him to show you His love.

If you need a little help getting started, pray this prayer:

Heavenly Father, I’m sorry for running from you. I believed a lie. When I’m disappointed in myself, I don’t want to see you, but I never can truly hide from you. I realize now you have never left me. Thank you for always finding a way to bring me back to you.
