No Longer Deceived

Jesus said to them, “You are truly my disciples if you live as I tell you to, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

─ John 8:31-32 TLB

No Longer Deceived

Most people who struggle with trust have been repeatedly deceived by others. Everyone is susceptible to deception. Deception is a lie you believed. That’s exactly what happened in the Garden of Eden.

Deception is fear at work. Satan’s question caused Adam and Eve to question what God said about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They didn’t go back to God with their questions. Instead, they followed their own path of reason, which eventually caused them to sin and hide from God.

Jesus came to grant freedom to all who would receive Him. And part of your salvation package includes freedom from deception. He proclaimed himself to be the truth – and trust in Him, alone – sets you free.

Four things you can do to ensure you are no longer deceived.

  1. Spend time studying the Bible.
  2. Make sure that God has more influence in your life than any other person or thing.
  3. Measure everything against God’s Word.
  4. Spend time in prayer.

Jesus leads by example, pointing us to His Word. He is the source of truth, and the highest standard of what is right. In Him we find freedom from slavery to sin, from self-deception and from the traps set by Satan.

Today’s One Thing

Read John 8:31-47. Ask God to open your eyes to any lies you currently believe. Expect Him to shine the light of His truth before you as you go about your day.
