No Wavering
Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.
─ Romans 4:20-21 NLT
Danny dropped his fishing gear into the back of Eddie’s truck and then slid into the passenger seat. “You really inspire me, Eddie,” he said. “You pray about something, make a decision and move forward. I never see you waver.”
Eddie smiled. “Truthfully, there’s often a little battle in my mind, but I keep it there until everything is settled. I’m so analytical, if I give doubt one inch, I am all over the place. So, I’ve learned to settle it, and then move on, trusting I heard the Lord and am being obedient.”
Abraham’s unwavering faith is mentioned in several places in the Bible. Romans 4:20-21 says that he didn’t go back and forth between faith and doubt, but took God at His Word, believing that God would do exactly as He promised.
When we pray, make a decision, but then go back and forth wavering, we begin to doubt ourselves. We ask if we truly heard God, or if we are truly doing what God asked us to do. Sometimes we let doubt talk us out of the blessing God has promised.
Refuse to allow the fear of making a mistake to keep you from pursuing what you believe the Lord would have you do.
Today’s One Thing
Pray and make a decision. Stand firm and go forward trusting God to do what He’s promised in your life. As you do, remind yourself of His promise and His faithfulness by speaking encouragement to yourself. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
- God keeps His promises to me (Deuteronomy 7:9).
- He is forever faithful (2 Timothy 2:13).
- My Father’s faithfulness endures to all generations; He has established the earth, and it stands fast (Psalms 119:90).
