Not Your Own
When was the last time you paused and considered how the pace you keep honors—or dishonors—the body God gave you? For example, let’s say you have a list of 12 things to do today, but by day’s end, you have only accomplished four items? So, you press on working harder and longer at the cost of depleting your body. We all have seasons when we truly need to push through, but it shouldn’t become a habit. Your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit lives.
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
– 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV
For those of us who believe in Christ, our bodies are not our own—we each belong to God. That truth shifts perspective. Rest isn’t just self-care; it’s stewardship. When you honor your body with sleep, stillness, and worship, you honor God. His Spirit lives in you, and it’s vital to make room for Him to speak into your life.
You have permission to rest and treat your temple well.
When you are rested and aligned with God, you serve better, love deeper, and listen more clearly. Skipping rest may look like productivity, but often it’s pride in disguise. It says, “I’ve got this.” But when you rest appropriately, you confess, “God’s got me and all my responsibilities.” Choosing rest, you recognize and live within your limits as a blessing.
God doesn’t want you to burn out. He wants your trust. And trust looks like resting when He says rest, letting Him restore what you cannot. You’re not your own—you were bought with a price. That price includes the privilege of peace, the right to rest, and the call to care for your body as a holy place.
Today’s One Thing
Pray: “God, I belong to You, and I will honor You by caring for my body, embracing rest, and trusting You to renew me physically, emotionally, and spiritually.”
