Obeying God brings Freedom

Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse—The blessing if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you this day; And the curse if you will not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you this day to go after other gods, which you have not known.

─ Deuteronomy 11:26-28 AMPC

Obeying God brings Freedom

Success defined by society today looks very different from God’s definition of success. God is drawn to your obedience (1 Kings 2:4).

Obedience is our choice. God gave us free will. He said in our verses today that He has set before us a blessing and a curse. We can choose either. If we choose to obey God and follow His ways, then His blessings flow through our lives. When we disobey God, we open the door to consequences for our disobedience. The choices of sin enslave us. Obedience sets us free.

Adam and Eve got what they wanted – knowledge of good and evil, but they disobeyed God. The belief that freedom is found in doing whatever we want is an illusion. True freedom is found in obedience to God. What we may perceive as restrictions are for our good, helping us to avoid evil.

Today’s One Thing

Have you chosen to go your own way in any area of your life today? Are you experiencing blessing or curses as a result of your choices? Go to God and ask Him to forgive you for going your own way, no matter how small the disobedience may seem. Recommit to follow Him and live in freedom today.
