Open My Eyes!
“I am sending you to the Gentiles to open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people, who are set apart by faith in me.”
─ Acts 26:17-18 NLT
On the road to Damascus, Saul became Paul through a supernatural experience. He was blinded by a great light and lost his sight. In that moment he met Jesus, the Messiah that he previously couldn’t see. Before this event, he’d been in the dark spiritually, unable to see the truth of Jesus’ message.
In our verse today, Paul is telling his salvation story to King Agrippa – and revealing his purpose and call – to open the eyes of the blind spiritually so that they may come to know Jesus just like he did. Through his experience on the road to Damascus, in his blindness he came to the revelation of God. And through that he would share Christ and become a conduit for all to “turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God.”
Saul couldn’t see Jesus as the Messiah. He was blinded by his education that formed his worldview. We all have misperceptions and unrealistic expectations that are contrary to God’s Word or move us in the opposite direction of God’s plans for us.
God desires for your eyes to be open today, to know Him and the hope He has for your life. Just as Paul accepted Christ and moved into God’s Word for his life, God desires for you to live with your eyes wide open, in His full light.
Today’s One Thing
Pray this today:
Heavenly Father open my eyes so that I may see. By faith today, I step out of the darkness and into your light. Help me to let go of the things of my past that are contrary to your truth. Give me wisdom and discernment to know what is the hope of the calling you have for me.
