Picture-Perfect Thanksgiving

God takes your thankfulness and gives you peace and joy.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. – Philippians 4:6 ESV

Are you overwhelmed by the picture-perfect Thanksgivings you see on social media or via ads on TV? When you think about it, what really is a picture-perfect Thanksgiving? Is it having ALL your family together in one place and everyone getting along perfectly? Is it having the food prepared perfectly delicious and hot all at once? Or is it having your house spotlessly clean and, once again, PERFECTLY decorated?

Peace is the reward for thanksgiving.

All this perfection can wear a person out! It can be the cause of even more stress in the family. In God’s Word, He has a few things to say about giving thanks and all this perfection is not a part of it at all. He tells you He is near, and you can talk to Him. He tells you not to be anxious, but to tell Him about what concerns you. He tells you to give thanks (Philippians 4:5-7 ESV).

It is common to have some expectations for the Thanksgiving holiday, but are there some things you need to change or make room for in order to experience God’s peace?

Today’s One Thing

Take some time today to give to God what concerns you about your holiday preparations and the coming together of family and friends. Find at least three things to thank Him for and trust in His provision and peace.
