Pray Before You Post

“God is God. He knows what he is doing. When you can’t trace his hand, trust his heart.”– Max Lucado

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

  • Psalm 55:22 ESV

The pain of having someone close betray you is indescribable. It cuts deep mostly because you never expected it, never saw it coming.  David is dealing with a broken heart in Psalm 55. Someone close to him has betrayed him. Even David wants to escape, “Oh that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest” (Psalm 55:6 NKJV).  You’re sure to relate, especially after the challenges of the last couple of years.

Look at who David cries out to, “Give ear to my prayer, O God” (Psalm 55:1 ESV).  Notice he didn’t call his mother or his best friend or post on social media. He cried out to the One who could truly help him.

David cried out in distress to the One who could help him, instead of posting on social media.

Throughout this Psalm, David pleads with God for justice. He cries out repeatedly because sometimes it takes repetition to deal with your broken heart. As he exhausts his emotions, honestly pouring out his heart to the One who can provide the comfort he needs, he reaffirms where he can put his trust, “But I will trust in you” (Psalm 55:23 NKJV).

You don’t always understand why things are the way they are, but you can trust the One who does. You can cry out honestly to Him and know He has the answer.

Today’s One Thing

Be honest with God about a challenge in your life. Then camp on the truth of His words in the Bible. You can trust Him.
