Receive God’s Great Mercy

Then David said to God, “I am in great distress. Let us fall into the hand of the Lord, for his mercy is great; but let me not fall into the hand of man.”

─ 2 Samuel 24:14

Jackson sat in the county jail. He didn’t want to remember anything from last night. He’d messed up – bigtime! His head hurt, but not nearly as much as his heart. How will my parents ever trust me again? he thought. How could I have been so foolish?

He had been angry and hurt. His parents didn’t understand how hard it was to fit in, he’d reasoned. He’d gotten caught up with a group at college and chosen to taste the wild side for the past month. He’d never done anything like that before and he’d gotten caught up in being accepted. But last night he didn’t like who he’d become. Now, he was facing charges for possession.

He bowed his head, “Heavenly Father, forgive me. I was so careless. I have disappointed everyone. You, my parents and myself. I accept the consequences of my actions. Please help me to accept whatever punishment may be coming my way. Please be my advocate and judge. Restore to me with the joy of Your salvation and give me strength to endure whatever comes my way because of my poor choices.”
