Refuse to Move
Even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.
─ 1 Peter 3:14-15 ESV
From day to day, moment to moment, your emotions can travel a broad scale. From an emotional high to a gut wrenching low, a thousand different feelings can flood our souls. Emotions are powerful and extremely demanding.
We were created to be led by the Spirit of God, not our feelings. Peter encourages us in our verse today to not be moved by the things that trouble our hearts, but to honor the Lord in our response to outward influences. Our responses are to be tempered with gentleness and respect.
No matter how explosive we feel on the inside, we can refuse to move as a result of our feelings. Learning to manage our emotions rather than allowing them to manage us allows us to experience God’s joy and honor Him.
Today’s One Thing
Pray this prayer today:
Lord, I refuse to be moved by my emotions. In all I do, I choose to honor you. I refuse to allow external forces to push my buttons. I will remain calm as I rest my soul in You. Give me wisdom in my response to those who oppose me for righteousness sake. Fill me with your grace so that I may show them your love and mercy today.
