Repentance Leads to Renewal and Rest
Maybe during a sleepless night or in frustration when answers seem absent you’ve asked, “God, are You listening?” or “Why can’t I hear You?” You want to connect. You want to know that your prayers are heard and concerns matter. And they do. But Scripture gently calls you to examine your heart.
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
– Psalm 139:23-24 ESV
Unrepentant sin dulls your spiritual hearing. Bitterness held tightly, pride left unchecked, and unforgiveness rooted deep can cloud the clarity of God’s voice. It’s not that He’s moved away. Those things form walls in your own heart. Isaiah 59:2 says your iniquities have made a separation—but the gospel offers a way back (paraphrased). When you confess, you tear down the barriers between you and God.
He desires purity of heart, not perfection. That’s why Jesus emphasized forgiveness and humility in prayer. A proper heart posture always leads to a right relationship.
God desires to be close to you.
Ask yourself, What am I holding onto that God’s asking me to release? Have I grown indifferent to sin? Are there people I need to forgive or confess to? These aren’t easy questions, but they’re fruitful ones. On the other side of confession, you find realignment. Repentance leads to renewal and rest.
God delights in drawing near to the humble. Let Him search you. Let Him show you what needs to change. Then come boldly—because your Father hears you.
Today’s One Thing
Seek the Holy Spirit’s direction and pray, “O God, search my heart, bring conviction upon me, help me forgive and ask for forgiveness, cleanse me so I can be in a close relationship with You.”
