Rest Is a Gift

You’ve been running hard—chasing deadlines, checking off to-do lists, trying to hold everything together. Even when your body pauses, your mind continues to race. And then, tucked into the Ten Commandments, God whispers something bold and refreshing: rest. He commanded rest to protect your soul.

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
– Exodus 20:8 ESV

After six days of creation, God rested. The seventh day was just as significant as any of the other days.  God wasn’t tired; He created something holy. He gave us an entire day to choose to rest. When you choose Sabbath, you step into something sacred. It’s never about lost time but instead choosing to align your heart with the One who made you and knows what you need.

Rest exposes trust and strengthens you. When you pause to focus on God, you’re saying, “God, I believe You’re enough. I trust You can handle all that is ahead of me.” Such obedience doesn’t make sense in a world that equates busyness with worth. But God’s way keeps you from burn out. He created you to abide and trust Him.

God commanded rest to protect your soul.

Rest is a command with a promise tucked inside it. When you honor the Sabbath, your body finds renewal, your heart remembers peace, and your spirit leans into God’s sufficiency. The Sabbath reminds you that the world doesn’t spin because of you but because of His faithfulness. And when you resist the urge to achieve and strive, you take time to notice God and recognize His control.

Let your rest be an act of worship. Refuse to rush or treat it like a to-do item. Invite God’s presence to refresh your spirit and restore your joy. Let rest remind you that you belong to a God who is never in a hurry but always on time and available.

Today’s One Thing
Acknowledge the importance of rest, and declare, “I receive rest as a gift from God. I trust Him enough to stop, pause, and be still, knowing that His strength sustains me far more than striving on my own ever could.”
