See People First

Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

─ Romans 12:10 ESV

When you endeavor to see people first and projects second in your job, it gives purpose to your work. For some of us, it’s more difficult to put people first because we are project-driven people. We’re just wired that way.

Jesus always put people before His projects. It was His compassion for a Samaritan woman that caused him to stop. The disciples asked, “Why are you stopping? Let’s get out of Samaria.” But He stopped and invested into her life.

When Jesus fed the 5,000, He could’ve said, “My message is over and I’m out of here,” but He cared about the needs of the people. When He heard they were hungry, He fed them. His job, His call, wasn’t just a project for Him.

God calls us to sincere love for one another (Romans 12:10). Sincere love requires concentration and effort to see people before the projects on your “to do” lists.

There is nothing here on earth we’ll take into eternity with us except for His people and His Word. It’s about people.

Today’s One Thing

Think about the people you work with; the people you partner with to accomplish the tasks you have to do. How well do you know them? Do you see them first? Make a conscience effort to let people know you see them and that you care. Slow down and have a conversation with your coworkers today.
