Seek Proper Sharpening

A chainsaw is a portable saw used to cut down trees and help create lumber or firewood for people. The teeth on the chain will often become dull after several uses and must be sharpened for the saw to operate efficiently.

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

– Proverbs 27:17 ESV

Consider, if you will, you are like the teeth on the chainsaw. You work and serve diligently. You do all the right things in preparing your mindset for the day’s activities and tasks. Sooner or later, your meticulous work may fall into a routine, and you will need to be revitalized and sharpened to keep your vibrant edge. It is your responsibility to keep yourself sharp.

Congruent with the above passage, iron can also dull iron. You are responsible for determining the appropriate tools and people who will benefit your walk with the Lord and fulfill His purpose in your life.

Here are three ways to seek proper sharpening:

  1. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s conviction and guidance as you read God’s Word and follow the guidance and direction you receive.
  2. Connect with others who focus on God and pray for each other. This group could consist of those with the same hobbies and interests.
  3. Memorize Scripture and speak praises to the Lord for the truths He has provided you.

God wants you to be effective and mentally sharp for His service and your livelihood.

Proverbs 27:17 implies at least two pieces of iron connecting somehow to sharpen at least one, if not both pieces. This passage also implies that it may be a challenging experience, but one that creates an effective edge for each piece or person.

Allow God to sharpen and shape you into a more loving and serving individual. Surround yourself with others who have the same mindset and purpose. Be careful with who or what may dull you.

Today’s One Thing
Praise God for His effectiveness and ask Him to revitalize you in His way.
