Serving Others Well

Does seeing new growth in the spring do your heart good? Trees begin to bud; flowers bloom and the grass grows. Temperatures rise, and the air smells fresh. Spring compels you to bloom and serve others so they can see the inward beauty the Lord has blessed you to share.

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.

– Proverbs 3:27 NIV

Jesus modeled service to others when He washed His disciples’ feet, telling them that He had come not to be served but to serve others (John 13:1-17). With humility and joy, Christ desires for you to imitate His example by serving others.

Joy is a crucial component of serving. Inward beauty comes from knowing you are doing God’s will and that your actions positively impact others’ lives. Helping others can be challenging and demanding, but it becomes a source of fulfillment and satisfaction when you do it with delight.

Serving others with what the Lord has given you brings fulfillment.

The apostle Paul wrote, “Each of you should look not only to your interests but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:4-5 BSB). Paul’s words remind followers that serving others with humility and joy is not an optional extra but a fundamental part of living for the Lord.

Serving others requires you to view the world and those around you through God’s eyes, to love them as He does and to be willing to put their needs before your own. As you serve others this way, you become more like Christ and His grace and love transforms your life.

Today’s One Thing

Reflect on the spring’s beauty surrounding you. Consider those things that laid dormant until springtime and then it burst into action. God desires for you to serve others with grace and love. Burst into action today.
