SMART Renewal

As you emerge from cooler temperatures and enter the newness of spring and summer, it’s a great time to restore or establish personal goals. The warmer season is a time of renewal, rejuvenation and growth. Just as the flowers bloom and trees return to their vibrant stage, you too can take this time to take a deep breath, establish goals and develop strategies to achieve them.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

– Matthew 6:33 ESV

To create personal goals, you must commit your work to the Lord and seek His guidance. One simple and effective method for setting personal goals is the SMART method. This method will help you set goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. By setting clear and well-defined goals, you can better track your progress and see the impact of your efforts.

When developing your goals, a key component is prioritizing and aligning them. As Jesus taught in Matthew 6:33, by focusing on God’s kingdom, you can ensure that your goals align with His will for your life. This will help you avoid distractions and stay on track toward your desired outcomes. With God’s direction and small actions each day, you can progress toward your goals and build momentum.

Building momentum and pressing forward brings life to you, just as you see new life in the flowers and trees.

You can attain your desired goal while growing your relationship with Christ. It’s essential to remember that God’s grace extends to all aspects of life, and you should aim to excel in every area for His glory. When your actions are aligned with His will, He wants to give you the desires of your heart.

Ultimately, using the SMART method allows you to live intentionally, stewarding your time and resources well and maximizing your impact on God’s kingdom.

Today’s One Thing

Take some time to brainstorm and write down a list of things you want to achieve in the short and long term. These can be specific or general goals – no critiquing; just write them down. Afterward, pray over your brainstorming list. Let these set for 24 hours. Return with the Holy Spirit’s guidance and ask the Lord to help refine your goals or mark them off.
