Stay Full

But be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.

─ Ephesians 5:18-21 NKJV

If you’ve ever had a swimming pool, you probably know when the water level is too low, the skimmer takes in too much air. Sometimes it makes gasping sounds or will cause a water feature to go off and on for what can seem like no reason. It’s important for the pool to stay full because low water levels can cause several problems. If left at a low level, eventually the pump motor can burn out, which can be very costly to repair.

Just as gasping sounds from a swimming pool skimmer taking in too much air, we can experience a spiritual shortness of breath as we become distracted with life and spend less time filling our hearts with the things of God. The result can be a form of spiritual crisis, a sense of separation from God.

God desires for us to have all of Him, to experience a fullness in Him. When we are full of God’s presence, we overflow with encouraging words, songs, music and thanksgiving.

Today’s One Thing

Are you overflowing with the things of God, or is your spiritual water level a bit low? What adjustments can you make this week to insure your staying full?
