Stay Mindful in the Moments
Teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.
─ Psalm 90:12 ESV
Stay Mindful in the Moments
People who make it a habit to be mindful of moments prove more successful in relationships and generally in life. Psalm 90:12 says to number your days so you can have a heart of wisdom.
When you realize life is short, it gives you pause to remember to cherish the time you have, especially with those you love the most. It reminds you to use the time you have wisely for eternal good. You want your life to count.
So, a great habit to develop is to know when to live in the moment. It’s important in your relationships to focus on the time you have and choose to be present, to be attentive to those you are with. With technology today and so many distractions, it takes discipline to put down the distractions and give your attention to the moment of time you are presently in.
Some things you can do to stay in the moment is to ask questions of those present with you in the room.
Ask:
- What’s going on?
- How are you feeling right now?
- Was there something to that look you gave me?
- What do you think about this?
The reality is, when we’re not mindful of moments, we can miss whole weeks. But to be present in the moments, especially with our spouse and children is a very powerful thing, and it’s something we all need to learn to do.
Life is made up of moments, and if we can learn to live these moments more intentionally, to be mindful of what’s happening in that moment, it builds intimacy, trust and deeper relationships.
Today’s One Thing
This week take steps to stay present in the moment. Use the questions above to start conversations, or, if it’s been awhile since you’ve had a conversation like this, start with opening up and sharing what’s going on with you. The more transparent you can be, the more intimate and valuable your conversations will become with those who mean the most to you.
