Stillness Before Opposition
When conflict looms, it’s natural to rush ahead, respond quickly, and plan your defense. But as a child of God, before any spiritual battle, He invites you into a sacred pause—one where your feet stand still, your mouth stays closed, your heart leans in, and your eyes are fixed on Him.
“You won’t have to lift a hand in this battle; just stand firm, Judah and Jerusalem, and watch God’s saving work for you take shape. Don’t be afraid, don’t waver. March out boldly tomorrow—God is with you.”
– 2 Chronicles 20:17 MSG
Standing still while enemies and opposition get close sounds absurd. However, 2 Chronicles 20:17 describes spiritual instruction and positioning. The people of Judah were told to stand firm, hold their place, and watch God deliver. Confidence in God is cultivated in quiet moments when you surrender everything to Him and acknowledge the outcome as His.
Stillness with God prepares you. You don’t become ready for spiritual battle when the enemy shows up—you become ready when you’ve already met with your Commander. Rest and solitude are strategies. Time with the Lord sharpens your awareness of what’s true, aligns your thoughts with His Word, and settles your heart when your emotions threaten to overrun your faith.
Solitude with God prepares you for battle.
This kind of rest isn’t always external. You might still have a full calendar and a house full of needs. But your soul can still rest when you anchor it in God’s presence. Jesus often withdrew to quiet places because He valued connection with the Father above the demands, attention, and chaos around Him.
Before you face another decision or react to pressure, ask yourself: Have I made space for stillness with God? Have I allowed His Word to frame how I respond, or am I trying to force results from my understanding?
Today’s One Thing
Pray and personally affirm, “I will rest in God’s presence, trust His Word, and stand firm—knowing He prepares, leads, and fights for me.”
