Stop Going in Circles

For the Israelites walked forty years in the wilderness till all who were men of war who came out of Egypt perished, because they did not hearken to the voice of the Lord; to them the Lord swore that He would not let them see the land which the Lord swore to their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

How do you know if you’ve made spiritual progress this year? Moses recorded the Israelites’ journeys at God’s instruction to provide a record of their spiritual and geographical progress (Numbers 33:2). What could have been a two-week journey to the promised land became a generation of walking in circles (Deuteronomy 1:2).

God brought them out of Egypt and miraculously opened up the Red Sea. He set a path before them and led them right up to the land He promised to give them. His instructions were clear, but the people let fear become a barrier to receiving what God had promised. When they heard the report of giants in the land their fear of what the giants might do overshadowed their faith in God and what He said He would do.

Where are you on your spiritual journey? Have you spent a portion of your time living in the desert, in partial obedience to the Lord?

If so, it’s time to stop walking in circles, continuing to struggle with the same issues over and over. God truly desires for you to take Him at His Word and prove Him faithful. It is time to face your giants head on. Step into your promised land by the power of the Spirit and expect to win.

When was the last time God gave you clear instruction? Look back over our spiritual journey and consider where God has brought you. Ask Him, God, what are your instructions for me today?
