Surrender to His Purpose

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me. The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

─ Psalm 138:7-8 NKJV

“Abuelo,” Carmen said sitting down next to her grandfather. “If you could have one ‘do over,’” what would it be?”

Her grandfather’s eyes twinkled. Without hesitation he said, “I would’ve accepted Jesus when I was a child, like you did.”

“Why didn’t you?” Carmen pressed.

“I thought I knew better than God. I didn’t completely surrender to Him and allow Him to lead my life until after your mother was born.”

Carmen couldn’t remember a time God was absent from her life. She thought of Psalm 138, and how often her own heart echoed the words of the Psalmist: I am surrounded by trouble, but you protect me against my angry enemies. With your own powerful arm, you keep me safe. You, Lord, will always treat me with kindness. Your love never fails.

From childhood we all dream of becoming someone special. As a child of God, we are already special and filled with divine purpose. Only God at work in our lives can fulfill His purpose and give us His very best. It starts with surrendering completely to Him.

Today’s One Thing

Surrender all to Him. Pray and ask the Father to perfect everything that concerns you today. See yourself letting go of anything you’ve held close, and not given fully to Him. Pay close attention to whatever He leads you to do this week, and follow closely toward your purpose.
