Test Positive for Faith
The challenges of life that oppose your faith should not come as a surprise to you but sometimes they do. New believers can find it especially hard to understand why trials come.
For you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
─ James 1:3-4 ESV
God made a covenant agreement with Abraham (Genesis 12). He promised to make Abraham a great nation. It came with one condition – to do what God told him to do. That meant leaving his home, his relatives and moving to a place Abraham knew nothing about. Abraham did as God asked; he obeyed, not knowing where he was going (Hebrews 11:8).
When trials come, test positive for faith.
After Abraham settled in the land God told him to go to, famine arrived there. Abraham could have wondered why God would allow that to happen. Instead, he went to Egypt where there was food. Abraham didn’t question God but waited for the next opportunity the Lord would bring to him (Genesis 12:10).
When your faith is opposed, God wants to find you faithful no matter what! In our verses above, James said when, not if, you face trials. They will come! When they do, use them as an opportunity to grow in your faith, learning to be steadfast and trust God.
Like Abraham, you can obey God, even when you don’t know where He’s leading you. Hold on to God’s promises and follow His lead and you’ll test positive for faith!
Today’s One Thing
Let go of the “why” resounding in your mind. Each time a question comes up about why or when, replace that thought with words and say aloud – “God keeps all of His promises. His plans for me are good!”
