The Meeting Place

But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

─ Matthew 6:6

As a child, many of us had meeting places – spots where we met our friends to play. As soon as the school bell rang for recess, we bolted to the place we’d agreed to meet and connect with our special classmates. Or perhaps on weekends or after-school, we rode our bikes or walked to the designated spot to play a game of volleyball, soccer or baseball with our group from the neighborhood.

In developing habits for positive spiritual growth, it’s important to have a special place to meet with God. We need a quiet place to come into God’s presence where we can speak privately with Him, share our thoughts and listen to what He wants to share with us.

Whether it’s drive time in the morning when we’re in the car alone, or the dining room table after everyone else is in bed, we all need time alone with God. When we step into our favorite meeting place, we can be instantly in His presence, ready to share our hearts with Him.

Today’s One Thing

Where do you meet God? If you don’t have a designated meeting place for time with Him, locate one this week and make it a daily habit to talk with Him.
