The Mountain of the Lord

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and peoples will stream to it. Many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

─ Micah 4:1-2 ESV

The Mountain of the Lord

We live in a fallen world, and it brings every kind of disappointment. The hard times in life are often considered living in the valley. But each day, through our relationship with the Lord, we can have mountaintop experiences.

Let’s look at a few biblical mountaintop experiences:

  • On Mt. Sinai – where the Lord spoke to Moses out of the fire (Exodus 3:1-5, 12, 24:13, Deuteronomy 5:4).
  • On Mt. Zion – from where the Lord reigns in heavenly Jerusalem and on the earth when He returns (Psalm 48:2, Hebrews 12:22, 24:23).
  • Mt. Olivet – where the Lord prayed in Gethsemane, and where the disciples, learned from Him, prayed with Him and rejoiced and praised God during Jesus’ triumphal entry (Matt 26:30-38, Luke 19:37, Matthew 24).
  • On Mt. Calvary – where our Lord was crucified, and we received His great sacrifice and love (Luke 23:33). When we look to Mt. Calvary, we see the place we are crucified with Christ, our joint mountain top experience (Gal 2:20).

Our verse today says, “In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and peoples will stream to it. Many nations will come and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.’ The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem” (Micah 4:1-2 ESV).

Each day is a new opportunity to escape the valley experiences and come up to the mountain of the Lord. Mountaintop experiences bring fellowship with the Lord where you can learn His ways, receive instruction, find direction and grow in your love for Him.
