The Power of Persistent Prayer

Prayer is one of the most intentional ways to connect with God. But when answers feel far away, or life pulls your attention in a hundred directions, you may question if God hears you or if your prayers even matter. In Luke 18, Jesus shares a parable to remind you to always pray and never give up.

And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.
– Luke 18:1 ESV

In the parable, the widow repeatedly asks the judge for justice against her adversary. Though the judge doesn’t care about God or people, he eventually gives in because of her persistence. If a selfish, unjust judge can be moved by determination, how much more will your loving Father respond to your prayers? Jesus paints this picture to remind you that God is faithful and deeply cares about you more than anyone you can imagine.

Persistence in prayer isn’t about convincing God to act. It’s a way to broaden your faith and draw closer to Him. Every time you pray, you declare your trust in His wisdom and timing. It’s not about changing God’s heart but letting Him shape yours.

God works all things for your good in His timing.

When answers seem delayed, it’s tempting to stop praying. You might face silence or wonder if your prayers are working. But Jesus calls you to stay the course. Persistent prayer shows faith in God’s character and His promises. Even in the waiting, He’s at work—building your patience, growing your trust, and preparing you for His perfect answer.

Let the widow’s example spur you on. Bring your requests to God boldly and consistently. Your Father hears every word and delights in your faithfulness. Trust that His plans for you are good, even when they unfold differently than you expect.

Rest in the truth that God hears your prayers. Affirm, “I will pray persistently, trusting that God hears me and responds in His perfect timing. My loving Father cares for me and works all things for my good.”
