The Secret is in the Soil

Agricultural regeneration focuses on restoring the soil to health after it’s been depleted of nutrients after years of conventional farming. It increases soil biodiversity, enriches soils, improves watersheds and enhances ecosystem services.

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
─ Luke 6:45 NKJV

Regenerative Agriculture looks to keep carbon in soil and aboveground biomass, reversing current global trends of atmospheric accumulation. Just as it took years to deplete the soil, it requires an investment of time, diligence and resources to replenish the soil.

Spiritually speaking, the secret is in the soil of our hearts. As we grow in our relationship with God, our hearts become fertile ground, pliable and open to receive God’s goodness and bring forth the fruit of the spirit that is recognized by others.

Jesus said you can see the condition of someone’s heart by the words they speak. A good man’s heart speaks good, while an evil man speaks evil. Whatever you cultivate in your heart is evident in your life.

Cultivate your heart to become fertile soil, open to receive God’s goodness.

Jesus said you will know people by their fruit (Matthew 7:16). You can see the heart of man by what they say and do.

Today’s One Thing

For the next two days, capture the words you say to yourself and to others – both positive and negative. You can make a note on your phone or carry a small notepad with you. Then take a sheet of paper and draw a line down the middle. Place positive words or phrases on the left and negative ones on the right. What conclusions can you draw about the condition of your heart?
