The Ultimate Trade

“Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.”

─ Isaiah 53:4-5

Perhaps you remember the words, “Trade ya …’” echoing across the cafeteria or school playground. Someone had something they were willing to exchange for something better in their eyes – maybe a bologna sandwich for ham and cheese, or a different kind of fruit, chips or candy treat. Whatever the case, there was an exchange that took place, if both parties were willing.

The greatest trade ever made occurred before the foundations of the world, when Jesus, God’s only son offered Himself in exchange for you. He gave His life for yours so that your relationship with the Father, could be restored. He was wounded for your rebellious acts. He was crushed for your sins. He was punished so that you could have peace, and receive healing from His wounds.
