Trust God for Today
Eckhart Tolle once said, “Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now.”
This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
– Psalm 118:24 NKJV
How often do we rush through life, always looking ahead to the next thing? We tell ourselves, Once I finish this project, then I’ll have peace. Or, When the kids are older, life will be easier. We chase a future moment, believing it holds something better, but in doing so, we miss what God is doing right now.
God is always with you in this moment. Focus on this moment and experience His blessings today.
As believers, we know that life is more than a series of rushed moments. Jesus urged us not to be anxious about the future but to trust God for today (See Matthew 6:34 NKJV).
Choose to fully engage with God in this moment. Right now, in the ordinary and imperfect, God is here. He is speaking. He is loving. He is working. But if our minds are constantly in the future, we won’t recognize His presence in the now.
Think about how Jesus lived. He was never in a hurry. He walked from town to town, pausing to notice people, to touch, to heal, and to listen. Even when pressed by crowds, He remained fully present with whomever He was with. In John 11, when He heard that His friend Lazarus was sick, He didn’t rush. He moved in God’s timing, fully present in each moment, because He trusted the Father to lead Him.
What if we lived this way each day? What if, instead of anxiously striving for the next thing, we trusted that God’s best is happening right now? What if we saw today as a gift to unwrap instead of a hurdle to overcome?
Today’s One Thing
Pray: “Heavenly Father, thank You for this moment. Help me not to rush through life, always looking ahead, but to be fully present with You today. Open my eyes to see Your goodness in the now. Teach me to trust that You are at work in this very moment. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
