Turn Down the Noise

Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you.

─ Ephesians 1:18

The morning sunlight pierced through the closed blinds and cascaded down into the room like a powerful waterfall. The warmth on Gina’s face and the midwinter daylight nudged her awake. It had been a long time since she’d slept so late and woke up so refreshed. She noticed the stress of the past few months had been released sometime during the night.

She had desperately wanted to believe God was still there, in the silence, as she navigated one of the most difficult circumstances of her life. Tempted to interpret God’s silence, or her inability to recognize His presence, to mean He was absent or unconcerned, Gina managed to hold on to hope – to hold on to Him.

Just like the morning pushed through into her bedroom, His power and presence filled her heart. She waited, ready to embrace His unspoken, but extremely obvious care and concern. His calm assurance like she’d experienced in difficult times past, once again settled over her.

Sometimes we allow the challenges of life to speak louder than anything else. We can feel like God isn’t there, but He has promised to never leave or forsake us. He will never break His Word. He keeps all His promises, so when it seems He is silent, we need to remember He is still there and trust we eventually will hear His voice.

Today’s One Thing

Turn down the noise and silence the circumstances that are blaring loudly in your mind. Ask the Lord to make His presence known to you today.
