Untangled from the Darkness

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

─ 1 John 1:5-6 ESV

Untangled from the Darkness

Late into the summer, Kim and her neighbor, Jessica, started walking together along the old racetrack. As the seasons changed, it began to get darker earlier in the day. They tried to walk as early as possible so they would not get caught in the darkness when the sun went down, but sometimes they would suddenly find themselves in the darkness. When that happened, Kim would reach into her pocket for the tiniest of flashlights. With a click of the button, the small light dispelled the darkness so they could finish the last lap and return safely to their respective homes.

The smallest glimmer of light chases the darkness away. In our verse today, “God is light” means that He alone can bring you out of the darkest places. His truth exposes the dark and hidden places that need to come to light and be exposed so that you can live a life free from any sin. Light untangles whatever tries to hold you hostage.

As you walk with God, His very presence reveals the things in your life that please Him, and the things that no longer belong.

Today’s One Thing

Pray and open your heart to the light of God today:

  • Ask Him to reveal to you anything hidden in darkness.
  • When He does, confront it.
