Wait – There’s an Easier Way

Have you ever observed your child, or even a friend, struggling to do a task or project that seems so simple to you? You might find yourself asking the question “Why are they making this so difficult when all they need to do is this or that?” Naturally, it’s your wisdom, maturity or experience that provides you a compassionate commentary or questioning as a method to help or at least watch the learning process occur.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

─ John 14:6 ESV

Paul may have been in the same compassionate situation when he saw fellow Christ-followers in Galatia more concerned about pursuing the law flawlessly. The Christ-followers’ interests were encapsulated by the ideology of being saved and accepted into heaven by following Jewish law. Are you caught in the pursuit of being perfect and conducting your life by a list of dos and don’ts because it feels right or because of a cultural ideology?

Being a Christ-follower (Christian) is about accepting Christ’s love and salvation and allowing His love to work through you.

Your relationship with Christ does not consist of a to-dos list. Such an approach easily becomes a method of legalism and results in guaranteed failure. Sooner or later, you will become worn out because of your efforts.

Christ came to fulfill the law and pay the price for everyone’s sins. His sacrifice checked off all the to dos on the list for you. He is the only One who can keep the law perfectly. You cannot work your way to salvation – no matter how hard you try. Salvation is only available through Christ. He willingly paid the price so you could choose to be saved and spend eternity with Him in heaven.

Christ made an easier way! By acknowledging that you have sinned, and salvation can’t be secured by following a list of dos and don’ts, but only by accepting Christ as your Lord, your life in Christ is assured. Upon your acceptance of Christ, you will discover that He is the way, the truth and the life and He has fulfilled the law.

Today’s One Thing

As you evaluate yourself, consider if your deeds are contrived by culture’s ideology, a list of dos or don’ts or the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Jesus paid the price so you may hear the Holy Spirit guide you. He will provide you with directions on who, what, when and how.
