With All of Your Heart and Mind
And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.
─ 1 Chronicles 28:9 ESV
King David knew from his own experiences that God searches the heart of every person and nothing can ever be hidden from Him, no matter how deeply someone tries to hide or even deny something. David, as a father and a ruler of a great nation, tried to prepare Solomon in life and in leading the nation by encouraging him to truly know God.
Much of what David shared with Solomon, principles to help guide him through life, is recorded in Scripture and benefits us as well in our daily walk with God. Six of these instructions are found in 1 Chronicles 28:9.
- Get to know God intimately.
- Learn God’s way of doing life.
- Find out what He wants you to do.
- Worship Him with all your heart.
- Serve Him willingly in your thoughts.
- Be faithful.
- Don’t become discouraged.
Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind” (Luke 10:27).
Today’s One Thing
As you think about your relationship with the God who knows you better than you know yourself, look at the list of seven things David shared with Solomon. Choose one of these seven to give your attention to this week. Pray about it and meditate on it throughout the day.
