You Can Tell God Anything

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.

─ Psalm 51:1-3 ESV

Whatever you need to tell God, He is listening. No matter what it is, something you’re guilty of, ashamed of, frightened about, disappointed in or even something you want to celebrate. He is available.

David wrote Psalm 51 after he committed adultery with Bathsheba and murdered her husband to cover it up. Maybe you look at David’s life and wonder how God could forgive him. He had known God since His days as a shepherd, and still he committed a horrific crime. But God did not turn away from Him.

David said, “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me” (Psalm 51:1-3 NIV).

David knew God would forgive him, but he had to stand before God and admit what he’d done. In David’s case, there were consequences for his actions – his life and family were never the same because of what he had done.

No sin is ever too great that God cannot forgive you. God, according to His unfailing love and compassion, will always forgive you. And although you may have difficulty forgetting what you’ve done, or other people remind you of it, God will remember it no more.
