Your Circle of Friends
Do not forsake your friend and your father’s friend, and do not go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away.
─ Proverbs 27:10 ESV
The pains of unfaithfulness from past relationships can cause us difficulty to trust others. We tend to hesitate in sharing with each other by asking for prayer because we fear our secrets might be shared. That fear keeps us from forming the community we need to experience healing.
While on earth, Jesus built relationships with a group of friends He could share His life with. He experienced rejection, loss, and betrayal, yet he loved unconditionally, knowing their faults and failures. Jesus’ closest friends recorded His life and His words that we read in Scripture today.
Proverbs 27:10 (ESV) says, “Do not forsake your friend and your father’s friend, and do not go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away.”
God created us for relationship with Him and others. So many people feel alone, alienated from others. We all need friends we can depend on and share our lives with. God has called people to be a part of your life. They need your friendship and you need theirs for encouragement, wisdom and agreement in prayer.
Today’s One Thing
Pray that God would show you how to be a blessing to a friend in need. Once He does, step up and become a true friend.
